Biography
Tomasz Licak is a distinguished jazz saxophonist, composer, arranger, bandleader, and educator whose artistry is defined by innovation, depth, and a profound understanding of jazz’s evolving language. Born in Poland, Tomasz embarked on his musical journey at the age of 19, relocating to Denmark to immerse himself in a vibrant international music scene. His dedication to his craft led him to achieve a Master’s degree in Jazz Composition from the Carl Nielsen Academy of Music in Odense in 2012, and further refinement through the Advanced Postgraduate Program at the Rhythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen in 2015. His academic pursuits culminated in a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the Stanisław Moniuszko Academy of Music in Gdańsk in 2023, marking a significant milestone in his artistic and educational career.
A recipient of numerous prestigious awards, including the Grand Prix at the Bielska Zadymka Jazzowa (2010) and the Jazz nad Odra Contest (2013), Tomasz has garnered recognition for his distinctive voice in the jazz world. His individual achievements, such as the soloist prize at the Krokus Jazz Festival (2009), reflect his remarkable technical prowess and emotive performances. As a member of the Danish Koda and Autor organisations, and an Honorable Ambassador of Szczecin, he has earned both local and international acclaim for his contributions to the jazz community.
